Boarding at SMUS
Each boarding house at SMUS is named after a famous figure in the history of the school.
Who was Winslow?
F.E. Winslow is the only person of whom a house is named that was not a headmaster or founder. He was, however, a great friend of the school, and as chair of the board helped steer University School through difficult times during the 1930s financial crisis (he retired from the position of chair in 1958!). A direct descendant of one of the Mayflower passengers, sadly his own son Frederick – a school alumnus – was killed in a training accident during the Second World War.
